Ridin' the Waves

A girlfriend and I were talking tonight about the wild waves and changing tides that life offers up.

Holy crap.

Those hard times that show up in surprising swells and crests and bang you around like a rip tide on acid. They shake your foundation, throw you off balance, and curl over you like monster waves in a not so “Perfect Storm.”

Yeah, those.

They’re brutal. UNLESS you remember to be resilient and flexible and nimble as things are rockin' and rollin'. Do that, and you can surf right through those perilous waters, hangin’ your own version of ten.

I LOVE the imagery: feet firmly planted, knees bent, adjusting and balancing “just so”, ready for the next challenge. Waves be damned.

And remember, that surfboard has a leash to keep it close by just in case you wipe-out. Even when clobbered by the barreling surf, you can yank that leash, pull your foundation back underneath you and get right back up on it.

As in life.

Feeling pounded by your own, personal tsunami? Blow the salty snot out of your nose and head out for the next wave. THIS is when you really get to Joyride.

Surf's up.
