The Simple Joys
I lead an incredibly busy life, by choice. So on the occasional Sunday when I create a bit of downtime, I am reminded of the power of simple joys. They offer such a delicious counterpoint to the wilder, more daredevil, back-to-back busy kind of joys that I make a point of seeking.
Not today.
Today is the Farmer’s Market for that amazing Aged Gouda cheese, the perfect tulips and lilacs, and fresh Brussels Sprouts that, when sautéed in olive oil, garlic and a ton of ground pepper, compel me to stand at the stove and snack as they brown to perfection.
Today, rather then sweating my deadlines and working all day at my desk, I choose to take my sweet time arranging the tulips and lilacs “just so,” pausing to savor how all of those shades of purple are truly a gift from the gods.
Today, I enjoy a glass of Veuve on my balcony, mid-afternoon! How decadent. The bubbles in my glass dance in tune with the sparkles on the ocean’s surf.
Today, I allow the simple joys to fill my heart and slow time to a crawl.
Today, I wish for you your own version of "simple."
Enjoy!
