TRULY Continuing Education
I read in this morning's LA Times that the world's oldest person to graduate college just got her degree! How cool is that?
NINETY-FIVE YEAR OLD Nola Ochs graduated, along with her granddaughter Alexandra Ochs, from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. (They grow 'em big and strong in Kansas. That's where I'm from.)
“I never think of my age,” she said. “We don’t die at a certain age. And if people didn’t know they were getting a certain age... I think they’d be better off.”
What she doesn’t ignore is the fact that her story can be uplifting to other elderly people. She said she recently encountered a department secretary who said she could be a great motivation.
“She said I’m an inspiration to other people,” Ochs said. “And if I can encourage older people not just to sit on the couch and watch television, to get out and do something, it’s such a good feeling. It appeals to me a lot.” (Courtesy of 'The University Leader,' Fort Hays State University.)
Go Granny, go!
